How it works

  1. Describe a normal Tuesday

Tell us what your day actually looks like: the calls, the fires, the jobs only you can do. That picture tells us more than an org chart.

  2. Count three things

How many hours you worked last week, how many people report to you directly, and how many recurring tasks have no written procedure. Rough numbers are fine.

  3. Agree the first 90 days

We propose one starting point, an hourly, project or retainer arrangement, and a written scope. Call, text or email; you'll talk to a senior strategist.

Services

  • Fractional operations manager

A senior manager in your business a set number of hours each week, running the weekly meeting, chasing the open items and owning the numbers until you can hire or promote someone.

  • Roles, hiring and first managers

Clear role scorecards, a hiring sequence and a plan for promoting your first lead hand, office manager or supervisor without losing your best worker to the wrong job.

  • Systems and written procedures

The ten or so procedures your business repeats every week, written down, tested with the people who do them and tied to the software you already pay for.

  • Owner time and delegation

A two-week record of where your hours go, then a delegation plan that moves the low-value work off your desk in a set order.

  • Scorecard and meeting rhythm

A one-page weekly scorecard and a short, fixed meeting schedule so problems surface on Monday instead of at month-end.

Five ways to take management off the owner's shoulders

If every quote, schedule change and staff question in your business still ends up on your phone, the problem isn't effort. It's that the business has outgrown being managed from one person's head. Coquitlam.Management fixes that: we act as a part-time senior manager for owner-led companies across Coquitlam, and we build the routines, roles and procedures that let the place run on a Tuesday when you're not there.

Behind the site is the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies, a Canadian consulting group headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. The management work is led by Ali Sedighi, MBA, who has 17+ years of experience in growth, operations and technology consulting.

Who this is for

This is for owners whose business has grown past five or six people but whose management style hasn't changed since it was two. You'll recognise the signs.

  • You're the only person who can price a job, approve a refund or decide who goes where tomorrow.
  • Staff ask you the same question twice a week because the answer isn't written anywhere.
  • Your best technician, hygienist or barista was promoted to "lead" and is now unhappy in both jobs.
  • You work evenings on admin and still feel behind on Monday.

Typical clients are renovation and landscaping crews, electrical and painting contractors, physio and dental clinics, tutoring centres, restaurants, salons and independent retailers. What they share is an owner who is still the bottleneck.

What we actually do

We take on the management work that falls between "owner" and "staff", and we leave behind something your team can keep running. Our five services cover the usual gaps:

The services overview explains how to choose between them if you're not sure where to start.

The arithmetic of an owner's hour

An owner's time is the most expensive labour in a small business, and most of it gets spent on work someone else could do. Here's a calculation you can run with your own numbers.

Suppose you work 58 hours a week. In a two-week time log, 16 of those hours turn out to be scheduling, chasing invoices, answering routine staff questions and ordering supplies. A coordinator at, say, $28 an hour for 20 hours a week costs about $560 a week before payroll costs.

  • If those 16 freed hours go into quoting and you win one extra $3,500 job a week at a 40% gross margin, that's $1,400 of gross profit against roughly $560 of wages.
  • If they go into nothing in particular, the coordinator is just an expense.

That second line is why delegation fails so often. Our owner time and delegation work decides in advance where the freed hours will go, and our guide to the two-week owner time audit shows you how to log them yourself.

Why Coquitlam owners hit this wall

Coquitlam is growing fast enough that many local businesses grow faster than their management. The City reports 148,625 residents as of the 2021 Census and describes itself as one of BC's fastest-growing municipalities. More households means more demand, and more demand means more staff, more vehicles and more customer messages long before anyone writes down how things should work.

The city's shape adds its own complications. A crew working the slopes of Westwood Plateau in the morning and Burke Mountain in the afternoon loses real time to travel, and a clinic near a SkyTrain station hires from a different labour pool than a shop near the Fraser. Our areas page looks at what each part of the city means for scheduling, staffing and supervision.

Proof, and what it does and doesn't prove

We don't publish client quotes or star ratings. What we can show are named results from our HVAC work, where the group built and managed whole divisions. GasBoilers.ca was built as a gas-boiler division for CANRO Heat and now serves 26+ BC communities, and HeatLand reached a 300% lead increase in six months on the back of 850+ SEO articles produced through a repeatable process.

Those are heating-sector numbers. What transfers to a Coquitlam landscaper or clinic is the management method: written procedures, a weekly scorecard and clear ownership of each task. The results page separates the two honestly.

How we work with you

We start with one problem, agree a written scope and expand only if the first piece of work earns it.

  • Free first conversation. Thirty minutes with the person who would do the work, no obligation.
  • Meet how you like. In person or by video call, with phone, text, email, shared documents and your own software in between.
  • Written outputs. Scorecards, role descriptions and procedures that belong to you, stored in your systems.
  • No lock-in. If the arrangement stops being useful, it ends. Terms are confirmed in writing in your proposal.

Prices are on the pricing page, and common questions are answered in the FAQ. The parent firms behind this site are Sedighi.ca and BusinessConsulting.ca. When you're ready, call, text or email and describe a normal Tuesday.

Frequently asked questions

What is Coquitlam.Management?

Coquitlam.Management is a fractional management practice within the Sedighi.ca and SAZ.ca group of companies, a Canadian consulting group based in Vancouver, BC and led by Ali Sedighi, MBA. It provides fractional management for owner-led businesses in Coquitlam: operations, roles and hiring, written procedures, scorecards and the owner's own time.

What does fractional management mean in practice?

You get a senior manager for a fixed number of hours a week or month instead of a full-time salary. That person runs the management routines, keeps the open items moving and coaches whoever will eventually take the role in-house.

Is this HR, legal or accounting advice?

No. We do business and management consulting. Employment law, payroll, tax and workplace-safety compliance questions go to the BC Employment Standards Branch, WorkSafeBC and your own lawyer or accountant, and we tell you when a question belongs with them.

What does it cost?

Advice by the hour runs $175 to $350; a scoped project such as a time audit or procedure set runs $3,500 to $25,000; an ongoing fractional retainer runs $2,500 to $12,000 a month. Add 5% GST as a BC client. The first 30 minutes are free.

Do you work only with HVAC companies?

No. Most owners we advise in Coquitlam run trades crews, clinics, shops, studios and professional practices. Our published numbers are results from our HVAC work, and we label them that way.

How quickly can we start?

Usually with a free first conversation, then a written scope. We usually reply within one business day, and the start date depends on how much of your time the first weeks need.
